Launched in 2004, our Human Rights Advocacy Program works to strengthen human rights protection in Mongolia through public education, advocacy, and strategic litigation. The program promotes the effective use of national and international human rights mechanisms to address violations of public and environmental interests.
Our program has led advocacy and strategic litigation related to human rights and environmental harm caused by irresponsible mining practices. These efforts have resulted in multiple landmark court cases, including rulings that halted illegal mining operations and mandated environmental restoration.
The program has also successfully advocated for legal reforms that strengthen citizen participation in decision-making processes within environmental, mining, and related legislation.
Strategic Goal (2015-2018)
To strengthen the legal framework for environmental and public interest protection while promoting equal participation of all stakeholders.
Objectives
1. Build stakeholder capacity to use legal and advocacy tools for human rights protection and the realization of the right to development
2. Promote inclusive stakeholder participation in environmental decision-making and advocate for access to the Aarhus Convention
3. Advocate for stronger environmental and public interest legislation
