The Human Rights Protection Program (HRPP) was substantially revised in 2015 to respond to emerging human rights challenges in Mongolia. The revision focused on strengthening the protection of human rights defenders, enhancing the effectiveness of civil society interventions, and incorporating lessons learned from long-standing work on victim and witness protection under the Anti-Human Trafficking Program. The program also builds on extensive experience in using national and international human rights mechanisms.
HRPP actively engages with international human rights systems. Independently and in collaboration with members of the Mongolian Human Rights NGO Forum, the program has prepared and submitted nine reports to the UN Human Rights Council under two cycles of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). HRPP also conducts advocacy to support the implementation of UPR recommendations at the national level.
